About twenty years ago I found myself in a really dark place. I was depressed, hopeless and hated my life so much that one fateful summer night I tried to end it. Amid my attempt, a soft but stern voice said to me “you were put on this earth for more than this. Get up.” I did as I was told and immediately felt a profound sense of peace come over me like never before.
The one thing I was very sure of is that I never wanted to go back to that place ever again. In divine God/universe fashion, we always receive what we want. However, it’s often not in the way we expect.
The very next day I was presented with an opportunity that would answer my prayers for healing, transformation and a continued sense of peace. But I had to agree to this one thing first: Invest in myself.
Even though I sensed this could be the answer to my prayers, I didn’t recognize it as such. So, while I spent money on everything in the outer world to make me happy, I couldn’t come up with any for the very thing that would change my life.
After saying “no” to the person who presented me with this life-changing opportunity, I got off the phone and asked myself one very important question. “If I don’t do this, what I’m I going to do?” I knew that I wasn’t equipped to support myself in going any further, and If left to my own devices, I would slowly be pulled back into the dark.
That sense of dread was all I needed to make a decision. I called the young lady back and said “yes,” and that was the beginning of a miraculous healing and transformational journey.
That investment of time, money, energy and resources in myself has paid me back in unimaginable ways. I met my soul-mate, I’m doing work that transforms lives, I have a deep appreciation for life, and continue to experience miracles daily, even amid chaos. And 20-plus years later I continue to invest in myself.
I share this with you today because over the years I’ve witnessed so many brilliant, powerful and talented souls, like me, who are wishing and praying for a way out but miss a golden opportunity when it's presented to them time and time again: the gift of investing in themselves. This really disturbs me to the core, because I know what’s on the other side.
I found this quote and couldn’t resist sharing: “When you invest in yourself you’ll never go broke.” I love this because being broke isn’t just about money, we can be broke in our minds, our hearts, our spirit, our purpose, our health and our relationships with ourselves and others.
On the other hand, when we invest in ourselves we are declaring to God/Universe/Source that we are willing, worthy and ready to evolve and become the person we’re meant to be, and fully experience all the peace, wealth, love, fulfillment, health, joy and creativity that is ours by divine right.
And that my friend is why we’re on this mystical journey called life!
